Wyclef Jean's mistress is true recipient of Haiti donations

yele Wyclef Jean's mistress is true recipient of Haiti donations

According to Gawker, Wyclef Jean is running a bogus charity where he directly funnels his money from donors to his mistress.

Wyclef Jean paid Zakiya Khatou-Chevassus, his mistress, $105,000 in salary for “program development” which was apparently whatever he needed her to do that day, book plane tickets, etc. This is one third of the total budget for the organization.

“According to internal financial statements obtained by Gawker in January, Jean didn’t contribute a single dollar to Yele Haiti’s American operation during the year he founded it, and its founding executive director resigned because he “saw hundreds of thousands of dollars going to business needs and nothing going to the charity, when it seemed that part of Wyclef’s new PR strategy focuses on his charitable endeavors.” In 2006, he demanded a $100,000 fee to perform at a Yele Haiti fundraiser designed to raise money for his own hometown. The event was canceled in part because securing Jean’s participation was too expensive.”

Looking on their website, it “looks” like they’re doing a lot. Notice Wyclef Jean’s music in the corner of every page. Notice how many of the pictures have to show him helping. And notice how many top pictures feature him. This charity is truly being run as a PR arm and money laundering scheme for Wyclef Jean’s music career.

Most charities are not as blatantly fraudulent as this charity, but some are getting there. And if they were subject to even half of the scrutiny that Wyclef Jean’s charity was, I wonder how many could withstand it?

Expect more posts in the next few weeks on certain charities that are defrauding their employees and donors.
