Sending off a grant

Fundraising Calculator Says: Last year 13% of the money that USA nonprofits received came from grants, according to the Foundation Center. Before you seek grants, consider that grant seeking is a time consuming and uncertain process. You have to research grants, ascertain the best prospects, contact the granting institutions, find out if your program is a good fit for their funding priorities, and then even if they encourage you to submit a proposal, you may still be turned down by their review board. All of this not only takes time, but it may be 6 months to 2 years before you receive money from the foundation.

To find grants for free, go to a Foundation Center Cooperating Collection.
