What's your favorite color? And other donor get-to-know you questions

Get to KNOW your Donors!
You are not in the fundraising business! You are in the relationship business!

Ask open-ended questions. Be polite. If they respond with one word or monosyllabic answers, it’s not personal. They’re probably just in a hurry, or want to talk to someone else.

Quick questions to ask a donor when you’re sitting next to them at a fundraising event

Why are you here today?
How did you get involved with this cause?
What do you think of the food?
Where do you come from?
Where is your family?
What would make this event more meaningful for you?

Quick questions to ask a donor on a thank you call

After saying thank you, ask:
What made you donate to us?
What’s a reason you would tell friends to be involved?
What do you think of our organization?
What could we do better?
What do you think we are doing well?
Do you know anyone who would be interested in:
highlighting us in their newsletter?
taking a collection for us at a church?
holding a houseparty for us?
donating a percentage of weekly profits to us?

Random questions to ask a donor or volunteer at a festival or tabling event
What’s your favorite color?
Do you have a pet?
Who is a hero to you?
What are you looking for today?
