A former coworker of mine writes grants for churches and other start-up nonprofits with small budgets. She charges $20/hour and has them sign a contract up front outlining her duties, how often they will meet, compensation, etc.

I've thought a lot about grant writing on the side and how to make it work with my full-time job. I just started a new position last week, so I think I will put this idea to the side until I get settled and revisit in 6 months or so.

Cherita,

Really good question!

I do wonder about the glut of consultants, and I wonder if these consultants have people supporting them, and have another business on the side as well.

With so many jobs going the way of the dodo, it makes one wonder if there are any real sure things out there, aside from a career as a doctor.

As usual, great post. I just wonder though: there are already so many nonprofit consultants out there, and if everyone (or a large percentage) starts a side-hustle (as Rosetta Thurman calls it!), then what will a glut of consultants like that mean for regular salaried nonprofit jobs?
